It's unfair to call John McLaughlin just a guitarist. He is the leading representative of a musical culture that has spread to various geographies of the world. McLaughlin has proven himself to be a true musical master through his diverse collaborations, such as with the Mahavishnu Orchestra, Santana, Zakir Hussain, and Wayne Shorter. Inspiring guitarists in a wide range from jazz fusion to metal, John McLaughlin was also in front of us with his guitar playing on Miles Davis' album Bitches Brew, which is considered one of the milestones in music history. The recording of their Friday Night in San Francisco concert with Paco De Lucia and Al Di Meola remains among the most listened guitar albums since the 1990s. McLaughlin, who won hearts with the many concerts he gave at İKSV events in Istanbul, is once again a guest on the festival stage in the 50th anniversary of the foundation. The date is June 29, Harbiye Cemil Topuzlu Open Air Theater to witness how John McLaughlin, who introduced 3 different generations to jazz and rock guitar playing throughout his career, freely pushes the boundaries of music with the band The 4th Dimension. Hayati Kafe, the winner of the 2022 Lifetime Achievement Award of the Istanbul Jazz Festival, will be presented the award on the stage before the concert.
